Certicom Corp. Profile

Overview

Certicom is the leading provider of next-generation encryption technology. The company was the first to commercially develop elliptic curve cryptography (ECC), recognized as the most efficient form of strong public key security. Its patented implementations of this technology are the fastest in the industry. In addition, Certicom has broad algorithm and integration support to cover the full breadth of information systems security requirements.

Certicom encryption products and integration services solve difficult security problems for the world's leading manufacturers of computing and communication products. From wireless messaging applications to electronic commerce, Certicom technology and expertise enables the next generation of low cost, consumer information appliances.

Founded in 1985, Certicom has pioneered the development of innovative security solutions built on next-generation encryption technology. The acquisitions of Consensus Development, makers of SSL Plus, and Uptronics, a leading security integration services provider, further support Certicom's efforts to be the primary security enabler for the next generation of Internet appliances. The company has over 100 employees worldwide.

Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC)

ECC has gained widespread acceptance as the technology that has revolutionized the field of cryptography, in many instances performing orders of magnitude faster than existing cryptosystems at equivalent security levels. ECC is enabling digital security for every kind of computing device today.

Offering the highest strength-per-bit of any known public-key system, ECC provides the same valuable security benefits as other public key systems, while needing only a fraction of the overhead. Certicom's highly optimized implementations leverage ECC's small key sizes and reduced computational requirements to achieve the fastest, highest performance ECC available, making new types of applications viable in the marketplace.

Certicom has always been at the forefront of groundbreaking research in the field of cryptography and has complemented this effort by sponsoring an Industrial Research Chair of Cryptography at the University of Waterloo, Canada.
