PlanetRx.com Licenses Certicom Wireless Security Technology

High-Performance Encryption Technology Provides Strong Security for Handheld Pharmacy Application

HAYWARD, Calif., February 15, 2000 – Certicom, a leading provider of mobile e-business security, and PlanetRx.com (NASD: PLRX), a leading Internet healthcare destination for content, commerce and community, have formed a licensing agreement whereby PlanetRx.com has secured its new remote shopping service with encryption technology designed by Certicom. Certicom’s trusted elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) provides PlanetRx.com mobile users added assurance that their personal and financial information will be protected when utilizing Palm Computing OS devices to perform mobile transactions with the PlanetRx.com Web site.

Available now, PlanetRx.com's new remote shopping service allows consumers with a Palm Computing platform device and modem to quickly order certain products they have previously purchased from their personal PlanetRx.com shopping list, including over-the-counter medication and medical supplies, vitamins and herbs, and healthcare and beauty products. Consumers simply download and install free-of-charge a remote shopping application from the PlanetRx.com Web site to their Palm device and can place orders through PlanetRx.com’s Web site from their HotSyncÔ cradle and Internet-connected desktop PC, or through a modem attached to a Palm ComputingÒ device. Mobile users will soon be able to choose from PlanetRx.com's full line of products, in addition to using the integrated wireless Internet support available on Palm VII organizers.

The PlanetRx.com remote shopping service is built on a technology platform that contains trusted encryption technology from Certicom and infrastructure hardware and software from IBM. By extending its Web-based heath and beauty shopping service to mobile devices, PlanetRx.com is helping to transform traditional retailing into convenient and mobile e-tailing.

"The dramatic growth of mobile and wireless Internet-connected devices has opened up a new and attractive sales channel to connect to PlanetRx.com users," said James Chong, chief technology officer at PlanetRx.com. "Our customers demand that their personal and medical information remains confidential, and PlanetRx.com is committed to leveraging the best security technology available in our Web-based and mobile shopping storefronts."

"We are pleased to provide PlanetRx.com the underlying security technology for their new handheld shopping service," said Rick Dalmazzi, president and CEO of Certicom, "Certicom’s high-powered encryption technology provides the security backbone for a number of similar Web-based applications that are now being extended to mobile and wireless computing devices."
